Steph Walsh, founder of The Mirror Muse, with long dimensional waves

About

Meet Steph Walsh

Mirror Muse began with a simple idea: luxury hair should feel personal.

Not rushed. Not transactional. Not built around fitting as many people as possible into a day.

After more than sixteen years behind the chair, Steph Walsh created The Mirror Muse as the next evolution of her work — a space where artistry, experience and intention could exist together.

The Artist Behind The Muse

Steph's career has moved through many sides of the beauty industry: salon work, education, editorial styling, runway, events, film and independent business ownership.

Her work centres on dimensional, wearable hair — particularly lived-in blondes, dimensional brunettes, grey blending, custom colour, cutting and styling.

But the technical result is only one part of the experience.

Steph believes the best hair begins with understanding the person wearing it: their lifestyle, their maintenance expectations, what they love, what they are ready to change and how they want to feel when they leave.

Every appointment is approached as a collaboration rather than a formula.

Why Mirror Muse

Mirror Muse was created after years of working inside more traditional salon structures and recognizing that there was another way to build a beauty business. A way that allowed more room for:

Time.Creative freedom.Privacy.Collaboration.Education.Individuality.

The Philosophy

Reflect

Understanding where you are now. Your hair history, your lifestyle, your identity and what is or is not working anymore.

Create

Building something intentionally. Colour, shape and experience designed specifically around the individual rather than following a preset formula.

Become

Allowing beauty to evolve. Because personal style changes. Careers change. Seasons change. People change. Hair should have space to evolve with them.

A Different Kind Of Luxury

For Steph, luxury is not about creating the most expensive or elaborate experience possible. It is about creating the right environment for the person in the chair.

  • more time.
  • a private room at The Sanctuary.
  • not being double-booked.
  • having someone remember your hair history.
  • being able to ask questions.
  • knowing why something is being recommended.
  • having a colour plan that considers the next six months instead of only today.

Beyond The Chair

Mirror Muse is becoming more than Steph’s appointment book. It is a place for trusted artists, creative collaboration and experiences that bring people together across Calgary and Edmonton.

A Note From Steph

After sixteen years behind the chair, I still believe the most beautiful work begins with listening. I’ve met people in every season of life—ready for a subtle shift, a bold change, or simply a moment to feel like themselves again. No two people bring the same story into the chair, and I never want the experience to feel as though they do.

I created Mirror Muse to give that kind of care more room. Room to slow down, to talk honestly about what you want, and to make something beautiful that feels right for your life beyond the appointment.

The work will keep evolving. So will the people who make this place what it is. That’s the part I love most.
